Invitation

The South Vancouver Island Basketball Association is back this spring and summer to offer basketball opportunities for our local student athletes.

I am sending out this message at this time to announce the third edition of a program under the umbrella of the South Vancouver Island Basketball Association.  This year we are again adding a series of events to the annual Vancouver Island Seniors Classic All-Star Games to present an all-star weekend highlighting South Vancouver Island girls basketball.

This year the SVIBA is creating the 4th Annual South Vancouver Island Rising Stars All-Star Games set for Friday, April 4, 2025, at Spectrum Secondary School’s Old Gym

The inaugural format will include a Rising Juniors Game (present grade 8s and 9s) and a Rising Seniors Game (present grade 10s and 11s).  The teams will be composed of the EAST Region playing against the WEST Region with the dividing line being drawn down the McKenzie Avenue corridor.

The Goal Of The Games

The goal of these games is to increase the profile of girls basketball in the South Vancouver Island Region and to give local girls basketball players greater public recognition at an earlier age for their performances during their most-recent high-school and middle-school basketball seasons.  The SVIBA hopes this event may grow to include similar boys’ games in future years, but we want to establish the girls the first few years and make sure we present a successful event.

To start the organizational process of this year’s event, SVIBA will follow all the steps used to organize the annual Vancouver Island Seniors Classic All-Star Games for graduating grade 12 boys and girls.  As a result, I am asking coaches to nominate players from their school they would like to have included on the voting ballot for this year’s event.  After this list of eligible players has been compiled, a voting ballot will be sent out to all coaches to complete.  Note, only coaches submitting names for the voting ballot will be eligible to vote for the game participants.

Please make sure you meet all the requested deadlines to ensure your deserving players are included in this event.  Any late submissions will not have their players included on this voting ballot.  Please take the short time needed to complete the form and send it back to me rather than denying your players the opportunity to participate in this showcase event.
